In 2003, Umpqua Bank initiated a major evolution in the banking industry by transforming its branches into “next-generation, personal-finance stores.” A key component of Umpqua’s effort was the adoption of non-conventional customer-engagement tactics, including the use of music to deepen the bank’s relationship to existing customers and entice new ones.

Discover Local Music was a multi-faceted campaign that helped underscore Umpqua’s deep roots in the communities it served by connecting customers to local emerging artists through branded listening stations, live performances, music-reward promotions, and the sale of artists’ merchandise in the stores.
