Timbre

Tone color; the unique quality and character of a particular sound; what makes a sound distinct from all other sounds. In a musical context, for example, a banjo’s timbre is distinct from that of a piano or a bassoon; even when all three instruments play the same note with the same intensity, the sounds they emit are clearly different from one another. Similarly, two voice-over artists may read the same script with the same inflection and emotional dynamics, but the unique timbre of their voices will set them apart.
