Voice Over

Voice Over: The recorded voice track that provides context, explanation, narration, calls to action, and other types of verbal messaging in a film, video, or audio production. Unlike a spokesperson, who may be seen in a film or video production, a voice over is typically off-screen and anonymous—the disembodied, authoritative voice of the organization behind the production. As with any other production element, special care should be taken to select a voice over artist whose voice reflects the brand’s personality (age, sex, timbre, etc.) and who understands how to deliver the most appropriate tone, attitude, mood, and energy level for the brand. Over time, a given voice over artist may come to be recognized as the definitive “voice of the brand,” effectively creating an audio branding asset that helps audiences connect with the company on a human level.
